The Highgrade gang proudly welcomes its newest member to the ranks. Tom Ellis arrives in style, with his new EP "Old Time New Time",
the 17th release for Highgrade Digital. These four new tracks come complete with the endless funk and bouncy house grooves that Tom is so
renowned for. The man just has so much groove! You'd think it more likely that he grew up on the hot rhythms of South America than the cool
landscapes of his native Wales. Since 2003 Tom has been producing groovy cuts for labels like Floppy Funk and Trim-sound, the imprint he
co-founded with friend and colleague, Leif.

Whatever your musical fancy, you'll slide right into the groove on the title track "Old Time New Time". The playful,
cut up style funk combines perfectly with a bouncy bass-line and sparse piano keys to create a perfectly subtle disco flavour.
|
|
|
"For Sure" comes hot on its heels with vocal samples and a dubby bass-line pushing the track heavily forward with
snappy percussion and a fresh piano line that really get things moving.
|
|
|
Even in the more moody "The Factory", Ellis's signature sound is clearly evident. Here the bass is a little more
dry and brooding and plays around with some tweaky sound effects and twisted frequencies.

|
|
By contrast, "Doobs" is the perfect summer soundtrack. The euphoric harmonica sample and galloping beats almost
feel the like sun on your skin. Whether it's in the club or under a clear blue sky, you'll love this sound!

Nicht ohne Stolz heißt die Highgrade Bande ihren neusten Zuwachs willkommen. Tom Ellis sorgt mit seiner EP "old time new time"
für den 17. Digitalrelease des Labels. Bei den vier brandneuen Tracks knüpft er an seine unendlich funkigen Housegrooves an, für
die er bekannt ist und geliebt wird. Der Typ hat so viel Groove, dass man meinen könnte, er käme aus Südamerika und nicht aus
dem grauen England. Seit 2003 produziert der Waliser seine Jazz inspirierten Sounds für Labels wie Floppy Funk oder Trimsound, das er
zusammen mit seinem Freund und Kollegen Leif gründete.

Mit wem man es bei Ellis zu tun hat, hört man gleich im ersten, der EP seinen Namen gebenden Track. Funky cut-up-style
voll leichter Verspieltheit: Ein jazziger Bass hüpft um ein spärlich eingesetztes Piano und mischt mit Disko Sounds ordentlich auf.

"For Shure" kommt da um einiges direkter daher. Vocal Samples und ein dubbiger Bass drücken schwer nach vorn
und werden von einem frischen Piano und zackigen Percussions aufgeheitert.
|
|
|
Auch in "The Factory" ist Ellis' Handschrift unverkennbar. Der Bass, hier trockener und düsterer, wird wieder
umspielt von klickenden cuts und leicht wierden Klängen.

|
|
Dagegen ist "Doobs" der ideale Sommer Soundtrack. Bei dem euphoriesierenden Country-Mundharmonika Sample und den
galloppierenden Beats spürt man sogar fast die Sonne auf der Haut. Ob im Club oder unter freiem Himmel, ihr werdet diesen Sound lieben!
