As a DJ, Philip Bader is in demand around the globe, enrapturing crowds in Berlin and far away places like Tel Aviv and Rome. As a producer his release catalogue reads like a who's who of the elctronic
music scene, and his own label is also not to be taken lightly. Without question, this native Berliner is one of the most active and pioneering minds in the world of Techno. Now, Bader has recorded his
first studio album for Berlin record label, Highgrade Records.
The title of the album, "Wishful Thinking", already expresses one of Bader's central desires: "I've tried to combine many styles, and also to bring in emotional elements
to electronic music". With this album he aims to leave behing any apparent restrictive boundaries and to simply let go creatively... wishful thinking? Not at all. "Wishful Thinking" plays
with conventional stylistic expectations, mixing what at first seem to be incompatible genres into a diverse and exciting album.
The excitetment within "Wishful Thinking" is generated not least through the range of new and unexpected collaborations present on the album. So is the voice of jazz singer
Anna Luca, herself with a new album "Listen and Wait", soon to be released in spring, employed by Bader, where her soulful voice shines through on the the track "Shine On Us". For
the tracks "Sunshine" and "Wishful Thinking", we are treated to a voice never before professionally recorded: "I had this insanely good piano loop and my best friend's
girlfriend sang over it and I immediately had goose bumbs!" recalls Bader. For him it was a stroke of luck - as it was with many of the collaborating artists. "I think it's great because the
others bring something of themselves, and something entirely new is created".
"Wishful Thinking" offers something completely new in every way. The album cannot be put into any one catagory, switching skillfully between electronic sounds, jazzy tones, and
house rhythms, while other musical influences make themselves evident in the background. Nevertheless, the album exists as a harmonious whole that loses none of it's power or originality through it's
creative diversity. From here, Bader's audience will surely be curious about the content of his planned global tour.
For Philip Bader, "Wishful Thinking" is the fullfillment of a dream that has taken a year to complete. "The longer you make music the more you want to get away from the
standard 8 -15 tracks with the same contruction," This album therefore, is the right meduim at the right time. The album was produced without any pressure, and as such Bader was able to let his
creativity run free, something also that Highgrade Records has given him the freedom to achieve. "So I could make music that not everyone would have expected from me." Says Philip Bader
himself. The result: Anything except Wishful Thinking.

Als DJ ist Philip Bader rund um den Globus gefragt, begeistert mit seinen Sets Massen in Berlin genauso wie in Tel Aviv oder Rom. Als Produzent liest sich die Liste seiner Release-Labels wie ein Who is
Who der elektronischen Szene. Und auch sein eigenes Label braucht sich nicht verstecken. Keine Frage: Der gebürtige Berliner gehört zu den umtriebigsten Köpfen und Pionieren der
Technowelt. Nun legt Bader sein erstes Album beim Berliner Plattenlabel Highgrade vor.
Der Titel "Wishful Thinking" drückt dabei schon eine zentrale Hoffnung Baders aus: "Ich hab' mir gewünscht, viele Styles zu kombinieren und auch emotionale
Elemente in die elektronische Musik zu bringen." Mit dem Album wolle er scheinbar festgefahrene Grenzen verlassen, sich kreativ einfach mal gehen lassen – Wunschdenken? Keineswegs!
"Wishful Thinking" spielt gekonnt mit verschiedenen Stilrichtungen, mischt auf den ersten Blick unvereinbare Genres und gießt das alles in ein facettenreiches und aufregendes Album.
Spannung erzeugt "Wishful Thinking" dabei nicht zuletzt durch die neuen und unerwarteten musikalischen Kollaborationen: So leiht etwa Jazzsängerin Anna Luca, die selbst
im Frühjahr ihr Album "Listen and Wait" herausbringt, dem Track "Shine on us" ihre gefühlvolle Stimme. Bei "Sunshine" und "Wishful Thinking" ist dagegen
Ja Hier zu hören – die vor Philip Baders Platte noch nie professionell gesungen hatte. "Ich hatte diesen wahnsinnig tollen Klavier-Loop und die Freundin meines besten Freundes sang darauf. Ich
hatte sofort eine Gänsehaut", erinnert er sich. Für ihn ein Glücksfall - wie die Zusammenarbeit mit allen beteiligten Künstlern generell. "Ich finde das toll, denn die
Leute bringen jeder etwas eigenes ein, so dass etwas ganz Neues entsteht."
Etwas ganz Neues ist "Wishful Thinking" in jedem Fall: Das Album lässt sich in keine Schublade stecken, wechselt gekonnt zwischen elektronischen Klängen, jazzigen
Tönen und House-Rhythmen, während sich im Hintergrund weitere musikalische Einflüsse erahnen lassen. Dennoch fügt sich die Platte zu einem harmonischen Ganzen, das über die
gesamte Strecke nichts an Originalität oder Spannung einbüßt. Davon können sich Neugierige auf der geplanten weltweiten Tour selbst überzeugen.
Für Philip Bader erfüllt sich mit "Wishful Thinking", an dem er ein Jahr arbeitete, ein Traum: "Je länger man Musik macht, umso mehr will man weg von den
08/15-Tracks mit dem immer gleichen Aufbau." Das Album sei dafür die richtige Plattform gewesen zum richtigen Zeitpunkt. Dabei habe er beim Produzieren keinen Druck bekommen, sondern konnte
seiner Kreativität freien Lauf lassen, wofür ihm Highgrade den nötigen Raum ließ. "So konnte ich Musik machen, die nicht jeder von mir erwartet", sagt Philip Bader selbst.
Das Ergebnis? Alles andere als Wunschdenken.
